Local Economy
Orange County's economy is one of the region's most diverse, led by agribusiness, manufacturing and commercial/retail services. With 419 active farms averaging 265 acres each and 10 manufacturing companies employing over 2,000, Orange County's economic base generates annual payrolls in excess of $130,000,000.
In addition to crops, horses, livestock and horticulture, Orange County is the state's top grape producer - primarily by Barboursville Vineyards and Horton Cellars/Montdomaine Winery.
Several national manufacturing companies operate here, including American Woodmark, American Press, RIDGID Products, Technology Service Group and Atlantic Research Corporation.
Tourism is an important and growing industry. The
Visitors Bureau recently received recognition as one of the state's first four accredited programs.
